El Altar mayor
Estamos ante el retablo barroco más bello de Arequipa. Está compuesto de tres cuerpos horizontales y tres calles verticales. Todo él de madera recubierta de láminas de oro. En el cuerpo inferior destaca el cuadro de la Virgen con el Niño, se trata de una de las mejores obras del pintor jesuita Bernardo Bitti, de finales del s. XVI. A la derecha la imagen de San Francisco de Borja, tercer Superior General de la Compañía de Jesús. Fue él quien envío a los jesuitas al Perú en 1568. Al otro lado San Ignacio de Loyola. Sobre ellos San Estanislao de Kotska con el niño Jesús en brazos y san Juan Berchmans. Al centro un sol con el IHS, emblema de la Compañía de Jesús y sobre él la gran imagen del Corazón de Jesús, patrono del Templo.
A la derecha un gran cuadro de la Sagrada familia, que en la parte superior presenta una visión de la pasión y a la izquierda otro gran cuadro que representa a la familia de la Virgen
A la derecha del Altar Mayor tenemos el del Señor Crucificado, en él encontramos la imagen más bella de todo el templo, un San Sebastián atravesado de flechas.
Al frente el Altar llamado de los fundadores. Destaca una gran imagen se Santiago Peregrino, e imágenes de santos fundadores como los santos Agustín, Francisco, Domingo, Juan de Dios y Pedro Nolasco.
The Main Altar
We are in front of the most beautiful Baroque altarpiece in Arequipa. It is composed of three horizontal bodies and three vertical lanes. All of it made of wood covered with gold leaf. In the lower body stands out the painting of the Virgin and Child, it is one of the best works of the Jesuit painter Bernardo Bitti, from the end of the sixteenth century. On the right is the image of St. Francis Borgia, third Superior General of the Society of Jesus. It was he who sent the Jesuits to Peru in 1568. On the other side, San Ignacio de Loyola. Above them are St. Stanislaus of Kotska with the infant Jesus in his arms and St. John Berchmans. In the center a sun with the IHS, emblem of the Society of Jesus and above it the large image of the Heart of Jesus, patron saint of the Temple.
On the right a large painting of the Holy Family, which at the top presents a vision of the Passion and on the left another large painting representing the family of the Virgin
To the right of the Main Altar we have that of the Crucified Lord, in it we find the most beautiful image of the entire temple, a Saint Sebastian pierced by arrows.
In front of it is the Altar called the Altar of the Founders. A large image of James Pilgrim stands out, and images of founding saints such as Saints Augustine, Francis, Dominic, John of God and Peter Nolasco.
